My intent is to have an Astronomy Hack Day in Pune, India.

 

Good dates for this seem to be Mid-August.

Background: In Pune, the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics (IUCAA) has a great computer setup & hosts the Virtual Observatory-India project. The extensive India-centric Public Outreach section of IUCAA needs several ideas implemented or more elegant and inspiring ideas to emerge, which can then be followed up on. Hence it has been proposed to IUCAA to host this event.

 

Pune also has a big community of very active amateur astronomers. Many of them work with DIY instrument hacks & come across many hurdles. Any such needs for help with very specific tasks, through open software, could be brought to light here.

 

Seeing the big presence of computer professionals in Pune and their interest in contributing to Astronomy, I feel that these events can be filled with a lot of information and nice challenges for them. Needless to say, it will be highly useful to the Astronomy community.
